BUSY WEEKEND FOR FETHARD RFC
Fethard 18 Dungarvan 10
A great display by Fethard firsts secured a great win in this hotly contested league game,Dungarvan were favourites to win having beaten Killarney the previous week. However it was Fethard who started the stronger playing most of the first half in the oppositions 22,their pressure was rewarded when Gary Kavanagh kicked two great penalties. Then a great break down the left wing between Akim Faragh and William Power was stopped just short of the line. James Houlihan was introduced for Matthew Walsh who had taken a knock to the head and along with Brian Murphy and Kieran Power really carried the game to the Dungarvan. On a rare visit into Fethards half Dungarvan were awarded a penalty which they converted leaving the half time score 6-3 to the home team.
Fethard started the second half really well with the boot of Conor Kavanagh keeping Dungarvan pinned in their own 22 and the from a serious of great phases Richie Carroll got over the line to score a great forwards try Gary Kavanagh converted. The home team continued to pile on the pressure and from the back of one such ruck Gary Kavanagh made a great break from inside his own half opening up the Dungarvan defence and when tackled by the full back offloaded to Shane Kavanagh who scored in the corner,Gary hit the post with the conversion leaving the score 18-3 to the home team.To be fair to Dungarvan they came back hard and after a few dominant scrums were rewarded with a score. This was a brillant win for this young Fethard team and gets them back on track for the season
